This year Beech Hill College welcomes 92 first year students! Parents were invited to accompany the young students on their first day to meet the Principal Mr. Patrick Mc Ardle, the Deputy Principal (and past pupil) Ms Siobhán Sheerin and the First Year Head Mr. Tony Mc Hugh.
In Beech Hill College, we have a 3 day induction programme for first years. We believe that having this programme ensures that the pupils become happy and well settled and know what is expected of them in school.
The first years are the only year group in the school on the first day, they are ably assisted by TY students and tutors who help them become familiar with the school and their timetables. They enjoy sampling some subjects such as Woodwork, Art and PE. The next day is also spent in workshops, meeting teachers and familiarising themselves with the school. On tours of the school First year students were really impressed with the fantastic facilities that we have especially the practical rooms and the newly refurbished school canteen. On the third day all first years were taken on a free trip to Tanagh Outdoor Adventure centre where they spent time bonding as a year group and forming friendships.
Our first year students come from many different primary schools such as Gaelscoil Ultan, St. Mary’s Boys, St. Louis Girls, Deravoy, Corracrin, The Model, Threemilehouse, Glaslough, Urbleshanny, Corcaghan, Deravoy, Knockconnan, Tydavnet, Rackwallace, Garron and Knockatallan.
As 6th class students begin their final year of primary school Mr. Mc Ardle and Ms. Sheerin are planning visits to all the primary schools in the area to invite 6th class students and their parents to the BEECH HILL COLLEGE OPEN EVENING which will take place on Thurs OCT 19th at 6.30 pm.
