Students’ love of reading was very evident in Beech Hill College this week during our DEAR initiative (Drop Everything and Read). Each day students availed of the designated time to drop everything in hand and to turn to one of their much loved pastimes, reading.
As an Accelerated Reader school students relished in the extra reading time available to increase their word counts.
DEAR is an initiative established to foster the high level of attainment in the literacy patterns of our students.
Prizes were recently awarded to students from first to Transition Year who have achieved the highest word count in their year group to date.
Jessica Treanor achieved the highest word count in the first year group. Natalia Gancarz accumulated the highest word count in second year. Hannah Kellet has scored the highest word count in 3rd year to date. Rebekka Prim has now generated the most words read in Transition Year. Ms. Mulholland presented prizes to all of these students for their fantastic reading progress.
Students in Beech Hill College are now competing for the much sought after title of ‘Star Reader’ as we focus on students who have made the most progress in their reading between now and our next awards ceremony. Best of luck to all our students.
