Monday 24th March saw the launch of first ever Cavan/Monaghan regional First Lego League final, held in Combilift Headquarters. The First Lego League (FLL) tasks students to think creatively, innovatively and collaboratively to solve problems and challenges in the area of robotics and sustainability. Transition year students spent many tireless hours in the schools new Innovation Hub preparing for the competition. Our two teams ‘T.B.D’ and ‘Blue Punishers’ competed against a number of other secondary schools across both counties, all battling for one of the two prestigious spots in the All Ireland FLL Final. The event was a huge success for all involved and drew media attention both locally and nationally. Beech Hill students even making appearances on RTE News2day on RTE2 and Morning Ireland on RTE radio 1.
The afternoon brought great suspense and excitement as the winners were announced. ‘SUCCESS’ – T.B.D were declared winners in 2 out of the 4 areas and go through to the FLL All Ireland final on 7th March in Dublin. To add to the joy of getting through, they found out they received more points than any team in any of the 6 regional finals in the area of robotics.
We wish the team all the very best in the final. The winners of which will travel to the USA to compete in the FLL World Final.
